Push to Talk Over Cellular, or PoC devices, are the future of Push to Talk communications. Gone are the days of simple 2-way radios. They work in exactly the same way as their predecessors, except for one key change. PoC devices do not use radio waves to transmit their message, instead of using cellular data.
The huge advancements in cellular accessibility and reliability mean that PoC users can be assured they will always be able to communicate. Network providers give priority access to PoC users over simple mobile telephones meaning that you’ll get quicker transitions, with better quality audio and no interference.
The DigiX Horizon is our newest PoC device. With connectivity capabilities including Wifi, Bluetooth, 3G, 4G and 4GLTE you simply won’t find a PMR this reliable. The Horizon is ideal for places where the radio bandwidth available is limited due to high population density, such as London. It’s usually difficult to get a radio signal which won’t have interference in areas like this with a PMR, but PoC devices don’t need radio waves, so they don’t have this problem.
You’re probably thinking that PoCs will only work in big cities where the cellular signals are strong, but this isn’t the case. Since the emergency services decided to change their method of communication from PMR to cellular PTT, EE (the company who won the emergency services’ contact) has been extending their network to all areas of the UK. So your cellular PTT device will work anywhere in the UK, and anywhere will an internet signal.
